A Not-So-Cleansing Flood

Yesterday’s dream recall was a bust.  Not sure why because I had a full night’s sleep.  Maybe it was because I was determined to wake up to go to the gym. I wasn’t rushed or anything but maybe my mind was occupied.

This morning is a bit better but I literally had to claw at my memories to get it back. Like I woke up know a tiny vague nugget and I had to lie there thinking, “There was more, remember remember remember!” Anyway, here’s what I have. The order is probably a bit jumbled.

Dreams 03-31-13

I was the house that I grew up in. Everyone (meaning my mom, sister, some friends and possibly husband) were all leaving to go somewhere – towards the city I think. I followed them out the door to the end of the driveway, watching them go. The sky was a vibrant blue that faded into the distance with just a few large fluffy clouds. It looked idyllic but  I had a bad feeling.

Then I was in the basement but it didn’t look like the basement of the house I grew up in. It was the basement to a much smaller house. The stairs were plain white, leading down to a small area with bare concrete floor. There were a couple of closed doors. As I walked down the stairs I felt like the whole house shook, or maybe I just lost my balance. It felt like I was thrown to one side, much like when a ship hitting a wave causes you to lose your balance. I could see the pathetic decorations (tiny cheaply framed prints) falling off the walls. When I got to the bottom of the stairs, I found myself standing in waist high water and it still seemed to be coming in more.  I stood there hands up, holding onto the wood beams under the stairs for support.  Then I saw myself from a third person perspective.  I had tears rolling down my eyes. The world was ending and everyone who had left earlier is probably gone. At this point I couldn’t even go out to check.

Later I was in one of the upstairs bedroom, looking out the window to check if the water had receded. It had mostly but it looked like a ghost town outside. I could not see a single a sign of life. It just looked like the streets had been swept clean by the flood and there was some debris gathered around the sewers. In the distance, over the neighbourhood, I could see the city looming on the horizon. I thought to myself that it was time to venture out but did I really want to go? Was I ready? I decided I should take a shower and think on it. That’s step one to getting myself ready.

When I came out of the shower, I was naked with a towel drying my hair. I opened the door and while standing in the hallway saw my reflection on 3 mirrors on all the other bedroom doors. Except one, which was wide open.  I went up to it and found another full length mirror on it and closed it. Then I went back to the bathroom and walked back out several times, observing the effect of my naked reflection times four. I liked what I saw, I was proud. Especially since I was alone in the house, probably in this whole neighbourhood, I kind of stood there admiring my female form. By the way this was no longer my old house. This is now a fictional house I shared with 3 other roommates.

Then I heard the front door and voices coming from downstairs and I dove back into the bathroom, afraid of getting caught naked. It sounded like two of my roommates returning from getting groceries. But after I had put all my clothes back on, I found the house empty once again and I wondered if I imagined it. Am I really the only one here?

Then I was in the city. I remember walking along a glass covered walkway and there were many people there, busy, going about their day. The glass walkway looked out over the river and I saw a walkway with big concrete slabs right by the water. It was inviting and I wanted to go down there. I did just that and when I stood there, a familiar voice approached me from my left but it wasn’t a welcomed person. I cannot remember who it was now but basically this person told me certain people that I thought were gone had survived and were all gathered at this one place. She offered to take me there. I could not refuse so I let her lead the way.

When I got there, I saw a bunch of people that I was glad had survived. My husband was there too but when I saw him my heart sank. I didn’t know how much time had passed since the flood but I instantly felt trapped again. Am I expected now by all these people who had survived to continue this charade? I literally felt as if the modern decor in this place was caving in around me. All I could think at that moment, looking at these people was how do I escape?

Packed Bags and An Unfinished Store

I can’t remember the order here. In one part of the dream, I was with my family, mainly my mom and my sister and dad may have been there as well, in a vacation home. I guess it was time to go because I was arguing or bickering with my mother while walking upstairs about which bag to take. It was a floppy but long bright duffle bag. I kneeled down and stuffed some more clothing in and grabbed it.

In another part of the dream, I was very excited to go into a clothing store, expecting awesome finds. But when I walked in it looked like they were finishing up with rennovations, sweeping the dusty hardwood floors and there were still some contractors putting up shelves. The nicely dressed store attendant smiled at me while holding some dirty tools for the contractor, far away from her body. I wondered if I walked into the store before opening hours but I did not see a sign. She didn’t say anything else and didn’t tell me to leave either.

I was disappointed but saw that they had a rack on the back wall of colorful scarves so I decided to look anyway. I walked up to the rack and felt some really nice silk scarves. Then I saw the side wall had a couple of red crates with vintage record cover t-shirts. I rummaged through the bin, flipping through the shirt designs, pausing at a couple of interesting ones. Then I looked around some more, realized there was nothing else I could pretend to look at and decided it was time to move on.

Scavenger Hunt

10.08.12
I was a part of a scavenger hunt that took place in the midst of a colorful market place. There were stalls and tents everywhere, unmanned, but the alleyways were narrow. There was a big group playing the game and honestly I’ve forgotten most of the dream. Husband and I were on the same team but we had somehow split up during the game.

I was feeling good hunting for items and just soaring high on an adrenaline rush as I dashed throughout the market. When I was almost done with the list, I see husband in the distance turning a corner. I ran away in the opposite direction to hide. I wanted to be far away from him. I ducked into a tent and climbed into the bottom shelf oif a stainless steel metal shelf which was covered by a pink table cloth. I wait, holding my breath. I didn’t stay there for long before I was discovered anyway. Husband lifted the table cloth and I hated to see the look of sadness in his face and the disappointment that I would actually hide from him.

Riding on the Dummy Train

WILD attempt 04.08.12 – Fail

The attempt failed and I woke up at about 9:45am. It’s to difficult with the dog sleeping beside me, breathing on me, licking me. I think I did start having a waking dream where I was experiencing something, voices perhaps (can’t remember what happened) while I could still feel her breathing but then one sleepy kick from her and it woke me right up.

Dream (sleep in) – 04.08.12

I went back to sleep after. Shouldn’t have because I wasted more time. But then all I would be doing is cleaning the house, eating, making food. I guess that should be worthwhile.

I was in the R University campus after a tour with a group of students. AlbinoD from highschool was amongst the group. She didn’t look like herself but it was her. She was carrying some kind of folding massage table, oddly shaped but without the padding. I tried to help her carry one end because she seemed to have trouble with it but she insisted on doing it herself.

We finally got onto a subway train and she found a seat at the back. We chatted and she showed me a map of her classes and her schedule. In my head I was wondering the same thing. Which classes did I sign up for? Where were my classes on campus in relation to each other? When would I have time to figure it out?

The train exited the tunnel and we went above ground. Except now I felt like the train was not fully covered. It was like one of those zoo or amusement park trains that you take with the kids when they grow tired and fussy to shut them up. The train was passing through the city, which looked every bit futuristic, everything looked grey. Then suddenly I realized my entire vision was grey all except one small rectangular patch directly in the middle of my field of view. This alone was in vibrant colors. I started to freak out a little but the train went back into a tunnel and everything went dark.

Then I was sitting on a couch with husband at home. Roommate was also there chilling with us and the TV was on. It didn’t look like our real living room. Husband asked what I wanted to do the next day and I suggested we go downtown to the campus area to hang out, make a day of it and I would get to know where my classes would be. He just said, “Naaah.”

I was very disappointed. Then I think I tried to seduce him to change his mind but it didn’t really go anywhere.
